You don't have to lash out on a Kruger or Bollinger to enjoy a nice glass of bubbly. It might be wise to give the cheapest Cavas a miss, but there are a lot of smaller independent producers both in and out of Champagne using the traditional method and not, who produce some delightful offerings in their field. One of our favourites is Bernard Remy whom we hope to be importing soon.
Much has been written about the benefits of red wine for keeping heart and cholesterol healthy. For daily quaffing we would highlight our Trivento Shiraz Malbec - and for a well-priced quality wine try Quintela Reserva from Portugal's Douro Valley. For that special occasion, Chateau Aney Haut Medoc is sheer nectar.
Delightfully refreshing when summer comes. Italy's Cielo Blush is very popular amongst restaurant goers.
Trivento stars again including a Chardonnay Torrontes blend and there are also interesting whites to be had from Portugal, specially from their Vinho Verde area producing “Green” wines. (Vinho verde literally means green wine, not green in colour but a wine best consumed when young and fresh). Plainas Branco is reminiscent of a naturally forming spritzer.
Ports are a natural for gifts (both at Christmas and on other occasions). We have a number of gift-packed offerings such as the Martha's “Twin Port and Glass pack” or the Martha's “Port in a Decanter”. Just as Champagne is not the only producer of bubbly so is Porto not the only producer of sweet wines. Keep your eye out for the Quintela desert wine - on
our shortlist of forthcoming wines.
This is an ever-evolving section, but the greatest essential is the 10% off Frequent Buyer discount card. Just think you could save the complete cost of a “Harvest Wine Tour”.
