The CHATEAU Crème de la Crème Selection

If money is no object, this 1990 Vintage Volnay has to be the piece de résistance of this wine list.

It is every bit as well-structured and elegant as you should expect from a Volnay.

Wine expert Robert Parker writes of the 1990 Volnay as "exhibiting an excellent deep ruby colour, a lovely floral and red-fruit scented nose, sweet, ripe fruit, medium body and soft tannins to the finish".

The Domaine François Buffet, although of only eight hectares, is one of the most prestigious producers of Premier Cru Beaune.

1990 was an exceptional vintage for Red Burgundy. Although yields were high the hot dry summer produced small concentrated berries, which gave deep – coloured and intensely flavoured wines.

The Chateau Select Wine Club has bought the last remaining stocks of this 1990 Volnay from the producers.

More modestly priced at £14 a bottle, I can only describe the Chateau d’Aney Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois as the finest Haut-Medoc I have ever tasted.

Created in 1850, the Chateau Aney was given "Cru Bourgois" classification in 1932. Ruby-red in colour, it’s bouquet conveys spicy aromas of Fruits
of the Forest. It is beautifully rounded with a wonderful rich velvetiness on the palate.
